bullet INTRODUCTION

Welcome to "Interactive Kiosks and the Internet - Design Strategies". This class was first presented on February 15th, 1999 at Exhibitor ’99 in Las Vegas by Dave Heyliger, president of Rocky Mountain Multimedia, Inc.

Here is what you can expect to learn in this class:

  • Kiosk Basics
  • Kiosk Components (Hardware, Software, Enclosure)
  • Kiosk Capabilities
  • Kiosk Interface Composition
  • What Comprises a Successful Kiosk Implementation
  • What Works - and Doesn’t Work - With an Internet Kiosk
  • Storyboard Creation Techniques
  • How to Turn Your Storyboard into a Kiosk Application
  • How and When to Test Your Kiosk Application

Please note that this class is not titled "How to Design an Internet Kiosk". The reason for the true title of this course is to emphasize that the kiosk application dictates the presentation. Just because you have a web site doesn’t mean you have a successful kiosk. It is imperative that one understands all basic concepts of successful kiosk design before one may design the interface. This course will cover Internet kiosk design techniques, but only after the basic concepts are introduced.

bullet THE INSTRUCTOR Your Instructor

Dave Heyliger was born and raised in the Denver Colorado Area. He grew up in Littleton and graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a Civil Engineering degree (he has yet to use this degree!) He has been designing and engineering software for over 20 years, and has started three separate companies in his lifetime. He loves his family, skiing, hiking, fly fishing, golf, and backpacking.

bullet THE COMPANY

Rocky Mountain Multimedia has been in the multimedia software design and engineering field since 1993. During this time, Rocky Mountain Multimedia has been a recognized leader in the field of interactive kiosk design and one of the few companies to offer off-the-shelf kiosk software for the non-programmer. The founder and president of this corporation is your instructor, Dave Heyliger.

Over the years of creating, coding, and distributing kiosk-related software, Dave has learned that there’s a lot more to a successful kiosk application than just the novelty of a touch screen experience. Dave hopes that by sharing these experiences with you, your kiosk implementation will become a success the first time you place it out in-the-field.

Currently Rocky Mountain Multimedia has over 1000 kiosk installations and over 300 different client applications. The kiosks range in style from the high-end local multimedia to the Internet-only kiosk implementation. Clients range in size a stature, from the small Mom & Pop client to mid-range clients like the American Museum of Natural History in New York, to powerhouse clients such as IBM and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Chief Engineer Wolfgang The corporation also has provided a wide variety of clients with Computer Based Training solutions at affordable pricing. Full details of the company, including the company history, reference letters, download-able software demos, screen captures, and kiosk software creation tools can be found on their web site at http://www.rockmedia.com.
