Creation FAQ

Q: Is there a limit to the number of screens I can create?
A: No. You can create as many screens as you like.

Q: How do I create a new screen?
A: Easy. Simply click the New Screen button on the Kiosk System Editor, give the screen a name and you're done. All new screens created use the same backdrop (same full screen graphic) as the current screen you are currently editing. Once the screen is created, you can optionally change the backdrop graphic to any other existing full screen graphic you have designed. If you then assign a cool special effect for this new screen, each time you access it you will experience a really neat transition!

Q: How many types of objects can I have on any given screen?
A: Unlimited. You can create an unlimited number of objects on any given screen. Basic object types include pictures, text, sounds and/or videos. In addition, there are a series of "special objects" - or widgets - that are available as well. These objects include Date, Time, Kiosk Name, Random Number, Database Record Count, Shopping Cart, Credit Card Reader, Bill Acceptor, Pay-Per-View Timer, User Input Field, Web Page Title, Internet Connection Status, Download Status, Web Browser, or Database Aware objects!

Q: Are screens static or dynamic?
A: Dynamic. Screens are presented by first displaying the assigned full-screen graphic. Then, for each object on the screen, you can define both a sequence (order) and special effect - one effect for each object. The sequence determines which object displays when, and how long to wait before the next object is displayed. The end result is a dynamic presentation that really keeps the user's interest!

Q: How do I create a new object?
A: Easy. Just click on one of the object buttons on the Kiosk System Editor and drag the object onto your screen. Then assign the appropriate content to the object (picture, sound, text, video) and/or assign it one of the widget properties. Then optionally drag & move the object{s} around to your liking - there is no restriction on placement or quantity.

Q: Do any objects require programming or scripting?
A: No. There is no programming required with Kiosk-in-a-Box.

Q: Is each object "touchable"?
A: Yes. Each object is a self-contained "smart object". It knows when it's been touched and it knows what to do when touched. Certain widget objects - like the Card Reader widget - contain additional smarts to them, like knowing whether or not a card swipe is a "good" swipe. Refer to the Touch-Action Related FAQ for details on what each object can do.

Q: Can each object contain a "3D" touch effect?
A: Yes. If it's a picture object you can create really cool "depressed" button effects since you can assign both a normal (untouched) and inverted (touched) graphic file to each object. Text objects (text-based buttons) will automatically "flip-flop" their own border when touched - assuming you design your text buttons to include a border.

Q: Is there flexibility with the text objects?
A: Major. Each text object can have it's own background and foreground color and optional 3D border colors. You can also have the button opaque, transparent, translucent, gradient filled, or gradient translucent!

Q: Can each object, when touched, play a "click" sound?
A: Sure. There's an option to assign a "button click" wave file that is automatically played each time an object is pressed.
